What does cold-pressed even mean?
Cold-pressing is the natural extraction of oils from raw ingredients, at room temperature. It is the most beneficial and natural method used as it ensures that all the nutrients are preserved. This is a chemical-free process, as opposed to other methods. After extraction, the oils undergo precipitation and filtration. The physiological nature of the oils is therefore completely contained, so when we use these oils as part of our skincare routine, we are guaranteed optimal benefits.
Hot-pressing, on the other hand, is a method where the raw ingredients are subject to cleaning, crushing, and undergoing high-temperature heat treatment prior to oil extraction. This is done to trigger a number of changes within the oils: it breaks down the proteins, disrupts the cells, and reduces their viscosity. This is all done to make them more suitable for oil extraction. Some oils have pervasive smells, therefore hot-pressing is the manufacturer’s preferred method of extraction to make the product more appealing to customers.
