A beauty tale from the past

Red cheeks, lips and heals

One product -many uses… right up my street!

‘Akar Fassi‘, made from poppy petals and pomegranate skin, was used by North African women for many centuries, The name translates to ‘The Fez Lipstick’. It is a red powder, used in tiny amounts and mixed with either oil, water, or nowadays Vaseline, to create a lush red tint which was lathered onto cheeks and lips. It was even used on heals to give some colour ( as pink heals were seen as a sign of femininity).

Akar Fassi has many benefits for skin and hair, as it contains high levels of antioxidants. It is still widely used today to substitute lipstick and blush.
